Cost Effective Studded Blouse

Since starting my job at New look I've been ever so tempted to buy almost everything they sell! I seem to want to spend more than I earn. I may be working in retail but creative juices are always flowing. It was last week a woman returned a studded collar chiffon blouse. It was £28.99 and I was so tempted. But instead I used my initiative. I bought a plain cream chiffon blouse and a spiky bracelet, all from New look, which came up to a lot less than the other blouse!

I cut the elastic holding the spiky bracelet together and used the sets of three spikes to start sewing to the collar. Just using white cotton I sewed through the stud several times to make it secure. I repeated the process until I was happy with the amount of studs there were on my blouse. The bracelet contained 15 rows of 3 studs. So I could have carried on but I was happy to have just the fronts. Finally I placed the blouse in the washing machine and put it on a low temperature, it was the perfect way to test the sturdiness of the studs. All came out fine so it was ready to wear.

In simple cost effective steps I managed to create my own one off blouse using basic high street items. The girls at work loved the look, and I'm certain I'll be doing different studding to different colours of chiffon in time!

Canvas

A brief post just to show off my latest canvas. I recently asked a few friends whether they wanted a canvas for their rooms. I wasn't really fussed on what they wanted painted, just another piece to complete would be nice. My friend Matt got in contact with me and asked for anything I could think of. This was such a vague brief! I worked with what I know best - nude women. Think what you wish. He's a 20 year old guy who's currently doing up his bedroom, so I thought I'd go for something with an Austin Powers feel to it. Mix and out burst of colours with a neat silhouette on top.

I started out with my 'blank canvas' and began to sketch the nude woman with a pencil. After roughly mapping out where she would be I began to fill colour blocks with oil pastels. Fanning the colours out so it would look like they are coming out of her. After the colours were complete I got my black acrylic paint out and a very fine brush for the details.

In the final stage I filled the pencil out line and continued to keep the details as precise and neat as possible. Finishing it off with my signature. Alas the canvas was complete.

Cocktail sunglasses...

Bonjour fabulous ones. I'm super happy with a recent purchase, these hideous cocktail sun'glass'es. I'm quite known for buying ridiculous things, and this has got to be one of them. They are certainly different! And perfect for this Summer, at least I'm pretty sure not many people are going to be wearing the same pair! In my defence I got them on offer on the ASOS website. Only £12 full price so there's a bargain and a half! I can't wait to wear these bad boys with my new Hawaiian print shoes. Hello attention seeking Summer. Excuse my face also! No make up.

Photo Jars.

Bonjour! This is a quick short post just telling you about one of my quirky photo display ideas. JARS. It gets to the point where I get sick of certain things, this time it was photo frames. The box standard frames are so boring! So to spice things up a little there's a new way to display your fabulous friends.

I bought these jars from my trusty friend Ikea, which sells them in all sizes. To fit the average portrait photo I bought a '1l SOLM Jar with lid' for 99p! It's such a simple, cost effective way of displaying photos. You place two a5 size photos back to back and position them inside the jar. Depending on how you're feeling you can turn the jar to show your favourite photo! Great for the kitchen or bedroom. They're glass so they match any interior! You can even use a normal jar from the kitchen cupboard! The best thing about it is it's so easy to clean. Ciao.

Drift wood wonder.

Good afternoon you fabulous person. As it is such a glorious day I thought I'd do a post on my drift wood photo frame. It's practically free and super cute for your home. A few things you'll need - drift wood, one plain photo frame, a glue gun, and some washing up liquid!

It was about last week that I had the urge to go find some drift wood. Being as stupid as I am I had no idea where to look on the beach for this wood. So my friend and I got a little distracted with the rock pools as you do. It was only when we were about to give up that we saw some from the corner of our eyes! Just by the foot path where the tide had washed them on shore there was so so many. So I grabbed my PDSA carrier bag and dived on in there. I collected a fair bit, to the point I have a little box with enough to make another!

When I got home I went straight to the bathroom where I filled the sink with 'anti-bacterial fairy' washing up liquid and warm water. I put my rubber gloves on and began to soak the drift wood. Giving it a good clean to avoid any odd odours entering my room! Or odd bacteria that's collected from the beach... (remember it's not only sea water that touches these!) I could be wrong as you might not be so anal as me and appreciate the sea smell. If you do, I shall not judge. I then placed them individually onto a towel in the bath and let them dry over night. There's nothing worse than damp wood and glue.

In the morning I bunched them together and spread them out on a table. Placing them roughly onto my photo frame, NYTTJA frame in white - sold as a pair - bought in Ikea for £2.39. Picking out the particular pieces of wood that I needed. Once that was all ready I plugged my glue gun in and allowed it to reach a very high heat. Being cautious with the glue I began to glue the wood and frame together. As you can see in the final photograph I layered up some pieces to give it that real rural finish. Once dry I placed my vintage postcard of 'ladies by the water' which complimented the frame so well and hanged it up on the wall.

But don't let it stop you there. You can create almost anything with the drift wood look. I'm currently collecting more to make a white drift wood mirror. Which is perfect for your bathroom, hallway, bedroom or even as a gift. It gives the home such an earthy natural look. I highly recommend buying your own glue gun, they're perfect and needed for most projects! You can grab one at a bargain price of £9.99 in Dunelm Mill. And the refill packs are a super cheap on Ebay!

Don't be put off making things yourself. Not only is it much cheaper, it's also a guaranteed way of having something unique that no one else will have. I tend to go to fancy quirky interior design shops to get my ideas. Don't be disheartened if you live far from a beach, you can grab a bag of assorted drift wood pieces on Ebay for under a fiver. Ciao for now.

Intro -

Hello beautiful readers... So here's a little introduction about myself and this blog.
This is my first blog post so please be nice!

I'm Tania, after months and months of being pestered to write a blog I've finally given in. I like to do all things arty and can't get enough of fashion. And I don't just mean 'loving fashion' like most girls do, I mean I crave for it. I love styling people, designing my own clothes, finding bargains, and alternatives to typical high street trends. Not only will I be writing a little bit about where to find a good vintage bargain, I'll also be writing my step by steps for crafty/arty bits. Ranging from hand made cards to restoring furniture pieces. I'll keep you updated on my photography success and progress. I'll also be updating this blog with latest make up bargains and tips on how to use things efficiently and properly. You'll be looking like a glamorous star in no time... All these bits and bobs are just what's happened in my day to day life, so there isn't really an order. Hope you enjoy it.

Here's my current photography website;
